The Friday morning Clinical Research Conference, headed by Frank Lederle, M.D., meets the first and third Monday of each month from 8:00-9:00AM. AHC scholars and/or faculty/staff are invited to present research findings or information on how to obtain grants or to publish findings. Originally the conference was to alternate locations every three months between the University of Minnesota and the VA Medical Center. However, it was recently decided that all future conferences will be held at the University of Minnesota. The purpose of the Clinical Research Scholar Program is to support the career development of junior faculty interested in clinical research and to encourage research-oriented clinicians to develop independent research skills and gain experience in advanced methods and experimental approaches needed to conduct patient-oriented research. Selected scholars are supported for three years. After that time, the scholar’s clinical research career is expected to continue with NIH or other external support.
